IMPLANT RESEARCH

The clinical use of dental implants has intensified interest in research which examines changes in implant surfaces that may affect the attachment of soft tissue to implant surfaces, facilitate integration of a prosthesis with bone, or address the relationship between osteoporosis and oral health.

Past research has included:

  • Determine and calibrate radiographic imaging to reproducibly image and longitudinally monitor changes in bone-implant interfacial quality;
  • Develop in vitro and in vivo models for evaluation of the influence of HA surface crystallinity and dissolution behavior on bioapatitic mineral formation; and
  • In vivo response of artificial Ca/P bone substitute materials.
