We have a microbiology/molecular biology suite of
laboratories directed by three dental faculty members with collective
expertise in microbiology and molecular biology.
The
breadth of expertise in oral microbiology is expansive, covering areas of
cariology, oral soft tissues and periodontal diseases.
Our labs are fully staffed with research assistants
who have years of experience in microbiology and molecular biology research,
and are fully-equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation.
Recent research projects include:
- Efficacy of an anti-inflammatory gel;
- Prevention of tooth decay in pre-school children using chlorhexidine
gel; and
- Expression of beta-defensins in common oral infections.
