A Randomized Prospective
Clinical Trial Comparing the Effects of 3 Loading Protocols on Implant
Stability on Healed Ridges

Volunteers were recruited to
participate in a research study to test the clinical procedure for
placing a dental implant to replace a tooth in the front part of the
upper jaw. A dental implant is a “screw-like” medical device, which is
inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of a tooth. A temporary
false tooth is loaded on the dental implant to restore chewing
function. The overall procedure to place a dental implant in the
jawbone has a surgical phase, a healing phase, and a placement phase,
when the false tooth is loaded on the dental implant in a individuals
mouth.
This research study does not
test the dental implant device itself. This project involves making
measurements to test the stability of the dental implant after it was
placed in a jawbone. Most dental implants are allowed to heal under the
gum for either six (6) or 12 weeks before the false tooth is attached to
it. However, many dentists are now loading a temporary false tooth on
the dental implant the day the dental implant is placed in the bone.
All three ways of healing are being examined in this study.

Clinical
evaluation of an experimental resin cement (5-year recall)
Sponsor:
3M/ESPE
Enrollment Closed
|
|
The purpose of this study is to perform a
five-year clinical follow-up exam on subjects who participated in a
previous trial which compared two dental cements used to seat dental
crowns. The Class II restorations placed at the beginning of the
study will be evaluated using the same modified USPHS criteria used in
previous evaluation appointments. The evaluation categories are: color match, interfacial staining, secondary caries, wear, marginal
integrity, surface texture and axial contour.

Field trial on
SLA tapered immediate placement dental implants
Sponsor:
Straumann USA
Enrollment Closed |
|
This study is a post market field study of
a tapered dental implant used for the replacement of teeth shortly
following the extraction or loss of the pre-existing tooth (or teeth).
Following surgical placement, the implant is allowed to heal for at least
six weeks prior to fabrication of a dental crown. Following
placement, the implant is considered in function and will be followed for
a period of five years.
