Mr. Harless
received a BS in General Science and an MS in Preventative Medicine
specializing in Occupational and Environmental Health from The
University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA). As the Senior Research
Scientist, Mr. Harless is
responsible for managing the daily operation of the Cariology Research
Facility. The facility supports a wide variety of research projects that
specialize in mineralized tissue disease, dental materials and the
diagnosis, treatment and prevention of caries. He
also assists in the design, quality control, and oversight of
laboratory-based clinical research studies. Jeff also serves as the
division Chemical Hygiene Officer and the OCR
webmaster.

Maggie Hogan, BA

Ms. Hogan received
her BA from The University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA). As a research assistant
in the cariology laboratory, Maggie is responsible for developing,
designing and conducting experimental test and procedures relating to in
vivo and in vitro research studies. She utilizes various caries
models, and root and enamel surfaces.

"I
started at the College of Dentistry in 1975, and have worked at the Dows
Institute since 1982. My
specialty area is the crown model which involves everything from lesion
creation and characterization through placement and analysis. I
enjoy training and assisting dental students in our cariology techniques.

Pat Hancock, RDH, BA

Ms. Hancock
received her dental hygiene training at Southern Illinois University and a
bachelor degree from The University of Iowa.
Pat holds a dual appointment in Operative Dentistry and the Office of
Clinical Research. Her responsibilities as a research assistant in cariology include maintaining the laboratory and assisting in all aspects
of on-going research projects.

dual role at the College of Dentistry is working as a hygienist in
Operative Dentistry Department and as a research assistant in the Office
of Clinical Research's Cariology laboratory. I use my knowledge to
blend clinical skills with research applications to council my
hygiene patients on the importance of eradicating dental caries. "
