The Orchestra Department at The University of Iowa consists of four orchestras: the Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia and the All-University String Orchestras.
Dr. William LaRue Jones is Music Director.

The University of Iowa Orchestra Department will be holding string auditions for the Fall 2009 semester on Monday, August 24th and Tuesday, August 25th.  If you play violin, viola, cello, or bass and want to be part of one or more of the four outstanding orchestras, then this invitation to audition is for you. 

Here are the string audition times and locations:

Building Location:  Museum of Art (adjacent to the Theatre Building)

Monday, August 24th (Violins and Violas)   

                    8:30-9:30, MA Atrium
                    9:45-12:00, MA 180
                    1-4:00, MA 180

Tuesday, August 25th (Cellos and Basses)   

                    8:30-10:30, MA Atrium
                    10:45-12:00, MA 180
                    1-4, MA 180

Audition Requirements:  Each audition will be 7 minutes in length and include a short excerpt of a concerto, sonata, or etude, a three-octave scale, and sight-reading.

Where to sign up:  An application form and sign-up sheet for an audition time can be found on a table outside of the Orchestra Office, which is located in MA 180. 

For those who do not care to audition and would like to continue playing their string instrument while studying at the University, you are invited to attend the All-University String Orchestra (025:162).  No audition is required and registration may be done independently. This unique experience includes students from diverse academic pursuits throughout the university.
