Iowa Archaeology Month
Learning about Iowa's Deep History!
Iowa's archaeological heritage is celebrated each fall during Archeology Month. This annual celebration invites public participation in the awareness, understanding, and protection of Iowa's fragile archaeological heritage. Since 1993, the Office of the State Archaeologist has planned and coordinated Iowa Archaeology Month with the assistance of many local partners around the state.
Archaeology Month events include site and lab tours, ancient tool-making demonstrations, artifact road shows, special exhibits, lectures, in-school presentations, and occasionally actual field experiences. See examples of past events and posters and what's planned for this year...
