Richard Carlson has been an Architectural Historian with the Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist, Highway Archaeology Program, since February 1997. Prior to joining the OSA, he worked as a historic preservation consultant in New York state, where he conducted historic resource surveys and wrote nominations to the National Register of Historic Places. His research interests include barns and other rural outbuildings, mail order buildings, and the compilation of biographies and lists of works of nineteenth and early twentieth century architects, carpenters, and builders, from newspapers and other sources.
