Lane ShieldsHighway Archaeology Program Archaeology Staff319-384-0972 lane-shields@uiowa.edu Other OSA Staff | OSA Home (MA Anthropology, University of Colorado at Boulder 1998; Lane is a Project Archaeologist with the University of Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist, Highway Archaeology Program. He received his M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1998. He has done fieldwork and conducted research over more than two decades. These activities have dealt with five of the basic North American Prehistoric Cultural Areas including: the Great Plains Area (all five Sub-areas), the Eastern Woodlands Area (Upper Mississippi Valley, Central Mississippi Valley, Ozark Highlands, Ohio Valley, Great Lakes, and Southeastern Sub-areas), the (eastern) Great Basin Area, the Southwest Area (Anasazi Sub-area) and the Interior Plateau. Lane has also authored or coauthored over 200 technical reports and over 20 professional papers and publications. His areas of interests include Applications of Archaeological Method and Theory with special interest in 14C data presentation and manipulation and GIS, Western and Southwestern Intermontane Archaic Period Traditions with special interest in structures and high-altitude adaptions, Dunal Geomorphology and Excavation Techniques, and Midwestern Mound Constructing Traditions.
