Using I-Sites: A GIS and Database for Iowa Archaeology

Components of the I-Sites Interface:

Map Window displays a customized, interactive map of all or part of Iowa.

Inset Map shows the location of the current view in Iowa.

Toolbar allows panning, zooming, and querying the map. 

Legends and Layers frame with a  tab that explains map symbols and a  tab for customizing your map.

Table windows  display data returned by your queries of the map features. 

Seamless base map of USGS quadrangles can be displayed by selecting the layers tab and checking the box for "USGS quadrangles." 

  Note the "Data Current as of" time stamp in the lower right of the map view.
  UTM coordinates of the cursor are displayed at the left of the status bar at  bottom of screen.
Blue boxes display site counts per Public Land Survey (PLS) section. Sites that cross section lines are counted once for each section in which they occur.
