Special Projects

Each year, University Relations works with UI colleges and departments on a variety of special projects. A sampling of these projects is listed here.

Advertising
University Relations has developed Iowa media campaigns that convey the Be remarkable message (see below). In addition, University Creative Services works with the Office of Admissions to create and purchase print, broadcast, and other advertising aimed at informing prospective students about the top-quality, affordable education available at Iowa.

Be remarkable Campaign
The Office of University Relations is responsible for the Be remarkable campaign, a project designed to convey the University's vitality and value, attract promising students and faculty members, and raise the institution's statewide, regional, and national profile.

The Be remarkable tagline, themes, and images appear in print ads, radio and television spots, as well as in University publications, web sites, and other communications venues. Variations on the Be remarkable message can be tailored to reach all sorts of audiences—from prospective students to policymakers. For more information, see the Be remarkable site.

Election 2008

An online resource for journalists covering the 2008 Iowa Caucuses, presidential election, and first year of the new administration, the Election 2008 web site includes contact information for UI political experts, Hawkeye Poll summaries and links, election-related news releases, and other useful information.

Flood Recovery Information

University Relations kept campus and community informed about rapidly shifting events during the flood of 2008, and today continues that work with a Flood Recovery Information site that features the latest flood-related news, information on affected facilities, and more.

Iowa State Fair Exhibit
University Relations leads partners throughout the University in developing, planning, and coordinating a 1,200-square-foot exhibit at the Iowa State Fair. The project has included overall site design, daily programming of exhibitions by campus units and colleges, as well as appearances by Hawkeye celebrities. The space is designed to highlight ways in which the University serves the state of Iowa and its citizens.

Public Opinion Research

University Relations regularly contracts market research firms to chart Iowans’ opinions about the University, higher education in general, and other topics that help communicators throughout the University gauge their strategies and outcomes.

University Campus Maps Site
University Creative Services staff maintain the University Campus Maps site in partnership with colleagues in Facilities Management and Parking and Transportation, keeping this valuable resource up to date.
