'Legal Issues in Rehabilitation' workshop offered in Des Moines
The University of Iowa College of Education's Department of Counseling,
Rehabilitation, and Student Development -- in cooperation with the UI College
of Law's Center for Law, Health, Policy, and Disability -- will sponsor a
one-day workshop Nov. 8 titled "Legal Issues in Rehabilitation."
The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in The Principal Financial
Group building's Corporate I Auditorium, 711 High St., Des Moines. Participants
will learn about the most current legal considerations from a team of highly
qualified, experienced and nationally recognized authorities.
The program features a special keynote presentation by Peter Blanck, a UI
professor of law, psychology, and occupational health. Blanck is one of the
nation's leading scholars in disability law, a former member of the Presidents
Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, a Senior Fellow with
the Annenberg Foundation and the former commissioner on the American Bar Association
Commission on Mental and Physical Disability Law. He often provides testimony
to Congress and briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court on the ADA and other disability-related
legal and policy issues.
The workshop may be of particular interest to rehabilitation professionals,
attorneys, case managers, social workers, nurses, professional counselors
and psychologists. There is a fee for the workshop. For more information and
to register, contact Reta Litton in the UI College of Education at (319) 335-5275,
or via email at loreta-litton@uiowa.edu.
