University of Iowa News Release May 14, 2003 Pharmacy Students To Honor Former Classmate At Commencement Graduating students from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy will honor a former classmate during the college's commencement ceremony May 15. Jeff Loney, formerly of Dubuque, was a UI pharmacy student when he died at age 37 from cancer in May 2001. At the college's commencement ceremony the class of 2003 will present a plaque to Loney's parents, Dennis & Sandy Lueck of Dubuque, in memory of Loney. The graduating students also have dedicated their class gift - an antique-style clock - in Loney's name. The clock will be displayed near the Zopf Auditoriums in the Pharmacy Building. In addition, Hartig Drug of Dubuque has commissioned the creation of a stained-glass window in memory of Loney. Once completed, the piece will reside in the college's office for pharmacy student organizations. Loney worked as a pharmacy technician at Hartig Drug for several years before becoming a UI pharmacy student. The College of Pharmacy commencement begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 15 at Hancher Auditorium.
