Facilities Services Group
University of Iowa offices that were consolidated last year have a new name. The new organization, which is responsible for the development, care, and maintenance of the buildings and grounds, is called the Facilities Services Group (FSG).
FSG is directed by Richard Gibson, former director of planning and administrative services, who reports to Douglas K. True, vice president for finance and university services.
FSG includes an administration group and four large "activity groups." The administration group includes three units with responsibilities that cut across the activities of the entire organization:
- Campus Planning, headed by Larry Wilson, guides the overall development of the campus to ensure the compatibility and integration of individual projects.
- Project Administration, headed by George Hollins, plans activities associated with construction projects.
- Space Planning and Utilization, headed by Patricia Boutelle, handles space assignment, including classroom assignment.
The four activity groups are:
- Operations and Maintenance, formerly called the Physical Plant. This unit is headed by George Klein, who also been named associate director of the FSG.
- Utilities, formerly a unit of the Physical Plant. Garry Bleckwenn continues as the head.
- Design and Construction Services, formerly Architectural and Engineering Services. Ed Hawks continues as head.
- Administrative Services, which combines the support services of all the consolidated units, including personnel, accounting and data management services, and the motor pool. Susan Klatt heads this group.
