Christoph Beckermann, mechanical engineering, received the 1996 Marcus A. Grossmann Young Author Award from ASM International.

Arthur E. Bonfield, law, received the President's Award from the Iowa State Bar Association.

Norlin Boyd, engineering, won a Bronze Award from the Admissions Marketing Report for the production of The College of Engineering Undergraduate Recruiting Book.

K.K. Choi, mechanical engineering, received an honorary service award from the College of Engineering.

Joe D. Coulter, Opportunity at Iowa/anatomy, appointed to the Iowa Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

Lyra W. Dickerson, personnel services, served as the AA/EEO/Employment Track coordinator at the College and University Personnel Association MidWest Regional Conference.

David Gibson, microbiology, honored by the American Society for Microbiology for his outstanding pioneering and continuing contributions to the field of microbial biochemistry of aromatic hydrocarbons.

David C. Johnsen, dentistry, received the 1996 American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Distinguished Service Award.

Ed Mielnik, industrial engineering, received a medallion in recognition of his 50 years of membership in the American Society for Metals International.

Peg Nopoulos, psychiatry, received the Kempf Award from the American Psychiatric Association.

Gene Parkin, civil and environmental engineering, received an honorary teaching award from the College of Engineering.

Eric M. Rivera, endodontics, received the 1996 Endodontic Educator Award from the American Association of Endodontists.

Amy Roach, University Relations Publications, won a Bronze Award from the Admissions Marketing Report for the production of The College of Engineering Undergraduate Recruiting Book.

Curt D. Sigmund, internal medicine, received the Henry Christian Award for Excellence in Clinical Research from the American Federation for Clinical Research.

Duane C. Spriestersbach, vice president (emeritus), received the Faculty/Staff Achievement Award from the Univeristy of Iowa Alumni Association.

Christopher A. Squier, Dows Institute for Dental Research/oral pathology, radiology, and medicine, selected to serve on the editorial board of the International Journal of Oral Biology and elected to the board of directors of the American Cancer Society, Iowa Division, to chair the Tobacco Control Core Team.

V.C. Patel, mechanical engineering, received an honorary research award from the College of Engineering.
