About Phi Beta Kappa
The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the oldest and most prestigious undergraduate honors organization in the United States. Since 1776, election to Phi Beta Kappa has been a recognition of academic achievement. The Society’s motto, “Philosophiae Biou Kubernetes” (Love of wisdom, the guide of life), underlines its commitment to promoting excellence in learning at the undergraduate level.
Each person inducted into the Society receives a lifetime membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
Only 276 colleges or universities shelter a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. Alpha of Iowa chapter was chartered at The University of Iowa in 1895.
