The division occupies 24,000 square feet of space on the ground floor of the College of Pharmacy. Over 8,100 square feet are dedicated to the production of clinical supplies, including 3,300 square feet for sterile processing. Approximately 2,900 square feet is used for tablet and capsule production, including two special containment rooms for highly potent and toxic compounds. The remainder of the manufacturing space is used in the manufacture of non-sterile liquids and topicals. An additional 2,800 square feet is used for the divisionsıs quality control laboratories.

![]() The staff of the division works in a series of inter-related areas, including sterile products and general manufacturing; solid dosage forms and coating; and preformulation and formulation development. The areas of quality assurance and quality control assure that Good Manufacturing Practices are followed.
UI pharmaceutics faculty members are affiliated with the Division of Pharmaceutical Service and collaborate with faculty, graduate students and staff on research sponsored by federal granting agencies, such as the National Cancer Institute and the Walter Reed Army Institute of Reasearch. Some current studies deal with preformulation, formulation and manufacturing problems associated with the development and production of the latest chemotherapeutic agents. Members of the pharmaceutics faculty conduct research in the areas of biopharmaceutics, industrial pharmacy and physical pharmacy.
