Nancy Baker has been the University Librarian at The University of Iowa since August, 2000. During her tenure at Iowa, the University Libraries established Digital Library Services (DLS), a library department that offers thousands of digitized texts, images, audio, and visual recordings of special and often unique materials available in the libraries' collections. DLS also manages a service called Iowa Research Online, a repository of the digital research (articles, presentations, theses, faculty pages, and locally-created journals) produced by University faculty, staff, and students that are contributed by them. The department also provides assistance to faculty researchers who are working on creative, innovative research projects using digital technologies. In addition, Ms. Baker has been instrumental in increasing the numbers of digital journal subscriptions, electronic books, and multimedia resources accessible to University faculty, students, and staff.
