1/23/12 Meeting Summary

The past Monday's meeting started off with a Kaplan representative informing of us of what Kaplan has to offer. They offer 2 practice tests each year. There's one in October that they hold here on campus, and the other one is in February online. This year's test in February is being held on the 25th. The test scores are received immediately after the test. It's a great way to prep for school if you plan on furthering your education after undergrad. Kaplan also offers classes that can be very useful. Classes are offered online and they provide some at the Sheraton Hotel, as well. All the practice tests and online events are free, too!

One event coming up this semester is the Induction Ceremony on Sunday, April 15th. This is a great volunteer opportunity for current members, and you'll get to meet some of the incoming members!

Another big discussion at the meeting was about our point system. Just to make a few more clarifications: each meeting is worth one point and each event is worth 2 points. We realize that there are a lot of members that have conflicts on Monday evenings, and it's hard to accommodate everyone. In hopes of making things a little more fair, we've decided that if you have a class conflict or some other respectable reason for why you cannot attend a meeting, then after reading these summaries that I send out, email me back briefly explaining your absence [I don't need a huge story, i.e. just say you had class :)] and you will get 1/2 point for taking the time to read about the meeting and staying up-to-date on the organization's events. Also, if you're curious as to how many points you have so far, I'm the person to ask! I keep track of all the attendance, so just shoot me an email any time, and I'll respond at my earliest convenience.

At the next meeting, we will start collecting books for a book drive. Any donated books would be appreciated! Kids books, coloring books (that haven't been colored in too much), textbooks, or chapter books, etc. are acceptable. This is considered an event, so if you bring a book, then you'll receive 2 points! (Plus, 1 point for coming to the meeting, so actually a total of 3 points!) We will continue to collect books for a little while, so keep searching for them. Also, there will be prizes for the 3 people that bring in the most books! (such as a Poncheros gift card maybe)

Again, feel free to email me with any further questions or concerns!
