Awards

The NIC Award of Distinction:

This award is presented annually by the North American Interfraternity Conference to the two chapters nationwide that best exemplify the values of Greek Life: scholarship, leadership, service, and brotherhood.  Iowa Alpha was presented with this award in 2002 at Tagarista (the University of Iowa's Greek Awards Ceremony).  This award is a tremendous honor for the men of Phi Kappa Psi and the University of Iowa's Greek Community.

In an unprecedented move, another NIC Award of Distinction was presented at Tagarista in 2003.  This award was presented to Brand Newland (a member of Phi Kappa Psi) as an individual.  The NIC gave out 5 Awards of Distinction to individuals in Greek communities across the nation.

The President's Award for Chapter Excellence:

This is the largest award presented to a chapter by the University of Iowa Greek Community at Tagarista.  It represents excellence in all areas of Greek life and can be awarded to every chapter on campus if they are all deserving, or to no chapters at all.  Phi Kappa Psi has won the award each of the past five years; and in four of the five years, Phi Psi was the only chapter to win the award

The Grand Chapter Award:

At the 150th Grand Arch Council (Phi Kappa Psi's National Convention) in the summer of 2002, the University of Iowa Chapter of Phi Psi was presented with the most revered award given out by the national organization: The Grand Chapter Award.  As the program at the awards banquet described it: "...presented annually to the best Phi Psi chapter in the nation."

Individual Recognition:

Individual members of Phi Psi have also fared well, receiving numerous awards and recognitions:

• The University of Iowa's Homecoming King 3 of the past 5 years ( 7 top-five finalists)
• The University of Iowa's Greek Man of the Year each of the past two years
• The University of Iowa's Randy Ross Senior Leadership Award 3 of the past 4 years
• Phi Kappa Psi's Ralph D. Daniel Leadership Award Recipient (the top scholarship presented nationally)
• 5 Phi Kappa Psi Sommerfield Scholars
• 7 University of Iowa Presidential Scholars
• More members of Order of Omega (Greek Honor Society) then all other fraternities at Iowa combined
• Other Recognition:
• On top of the big three awards, Phi Psi has received countless awards from the national organization and the UI Greek Community:
• University of Iowa Dance Marathon Top Fraternity Fundraiser ($23,000 raised last year alone)
• University of Iowa Greek Brotherhood Award (voted on by all chapters for the chapter that best exemplifies brotherhood)
• University of Iowa Top Fraternity GPA each of the last 8 semesters (including highest fraternity GPA of all time)
• University of Iowa Greek Awards for top: Recruitment, Academic, Educational, Risk Management and Community Service Programs
