I do multimedia scholarship.
What?
Multimedia politics is the phenomena I study.
Multimedia is the way I share what I have learned.
Why?
First, it's fun.
And some of the most interesting politics of
the 20th and 21st centuries show up in the little nuggets we call
ads or spots.
And global communication opens a space for an
emerging global culture.
And I get to explore very different modes of
communicating what I learn.
And I get to teach students how to do multimedia
scholarship. When I watch students trying to hash out the wording
of the text of what they will make into an audio-video 30
seconds or what are the best pictures to use to reflect how
terror is presented in global communication I think I am doing
my job.
And I get to take advantage of what one can
do with computers that would otherwise be possible only if you
were a giant communication enterprise.
Where is the vita?
I do not have one.
But I got a phd. in political science at the
University of North Carolina a long time ago, and have been here
ever since -- if you do not count years off to work at NSF and
to study with friends
at Indiana and Illinois and Davis.
I publish -- almost always with friends from
whom I learn much as we work together.
What is this?
Curriculum vita are boring. This is an alternative
to a vita.
