Paper
Description: This
essay serves as the introduction to a trade press book about the
way intellectual property laws have negatively impacted many
different areas of cultural life in the United States. The book
will feature an Introduction (this essay) and five chapters that
focus on spheres affected by copyright, trademark and patent
law: Art, Music, Science, Education and the Internet. I argue
that intellectual property laws are being used to further
privatize our culture and to inhibit the free circulation of
information and cultural texts.—KM
