A "Public Rhetoric
Seminar" on:
NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND
This event is free and open to
the public.
Refreshments will
be served.
POROI encourages seminar guests to
read documents in advance of presentations as most seminars
offer the opportunity for substantial interaction between the
presenter, the audience, and the text.
The
NCLB document can be downloaded at:

From the text: "These reforms express my deep belief in our
public schools and their mission to build the mind and character
of every child, from every background, in every part of
America."
--President George W. Bush, January 2001
DESCRIPTION: This seminar is the second annual
in our PUBLIC RHETORIC SEMINAR series. The purpose of the series
is to discuss and analyze texts (speeches, reports, policy
statements, etc.) about public issues of local, regional, state,
national, or global significance, and to do so in a public
forum. While these seminars will certainly serve to improve our
ability to engage in cross-disciplinary discourse, they will be
conducted with the primary goal of helping students, faculty,
and non-scholars to learn what public texts mean and how they
mean, and so learn how to be more effective
citizens/stakeholders in the changed rhetorical context of the
21st Century.
