How do I get my printed material mailed?
Contact Central Mail Services to
arrange for a mailing. You will have the best results if you do this as you plan your printing
order. Your audience, deadlines, and the type of information contained in the mail piece will
factor into determining the mailing requirements.
When you order printed material that will be distributed by Central Mail, let us know on
your requisition and we'll deliver it to the mail center, right next door to our bindery,
after it is printed.
Whom should I contact to plan the mailing?
Contact Bulk Mail
if you
-- want your mail pieces addressed or labeled.
-- are planning a bulk mailing.
-- plan to include a reply mail piece in
your mailing.
-- want to use a University mail permit.
-- need inserting or tabbing.
Contact
Campus Mail
if you
-- intend to apply your own labels and
your audience is limited to the University community.
-- need to have your mail metered for delivery
by the U.S. Postal Service.
How much will a mailing cost?
You may check the
posted rates and fees
on the Central Mail web site, but be sure to contact the
mail center staff
for the cost of a given project. Some factors that affect cost are the size and proportions of
a mail piece; the weight of the paper on which it is printed; the inclusion of inserts; the number
of pieces to be mailed; whether you use auxiliary services such as tabbing; the locations to which
the pieces are mailed; whether the mailing meets bulk mail qualifications; and whether your
department qualifies as a nonprofit organization.
Follow the Postal Service's
addressing guidelines
to help assure that your mail receives the lower rates that are awarded mail that meets automated
processing standards.
How long will it take to process a mailing?
Factors that determine the processing time include whether the mail pieces are compatible with
the equipment used, how many pieces there are, and the time of month the mailing is ready. The
first of each month is busy for Mail Service, because that is when much of the University's
high-volume mail comes through. It's also a higher volume time for the U.S. Postal Service.
Other factors that can affect the delivery time of a mailing are the class of mail being
used (First-Class is faster for mail going out of state), and the amount of time it takes
to prepare and print the mail pieces. Contact a
customer service representative or
Copy Center Services, as well as
Central Mail, well before your
needed delivery date to plan your printing and mailing.
