The Printing Department's Prepress area transforms your material into a print-ready format. Maybe you've created and sent us a file for a brochure, with the layout exactly the way you want it to look. Perhaps you want us to create the brochure, and have sent a file in Microsoft Word or a typed manuscript. However you send your information, our job is to make sure it can be printed.

Preflight
If you do your own layout and formatting, this checkpoint scans your electronic files to see that necessary elements such as fonts and linked images are in place. It's best to contact the Prepress supervisor to discuss your project when you begin it, to avoid problems later in the process and to get help downloading printer drivers and tips on how to set up, save, and send files.

Page formatting, layout, film and platemaking
The prepress staff work on composition, page layout, and typesetting for those who prefer not to do it themselves. This can involve typing from manuscripts, converting keystrokes sent electronically, scanning and importing photos or graphics, and organizing these elements into a cohesive whole. From this they make the plates that are placed on the presses.
