The Special Assistant to the President for Equal Opportunity and Diversity is a new position created July 1, 2006. In 2006-07 the Special Assistant to the President has the special responsibility to lead the reorganization of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity—including the Office of Support Service Programs, Opportunity at Iowa, and the Faculty Diversity Opportunities Program—in close collaboration with the VP for Student Services and Provost. Continuing duties will include assuming responsibility for the administrative oversight of the newly reorganized office; representing the Office of the President on matters related to diversity within the University and our broader Iowa community; and providing campus-wide leadership regarding the importance of diversity to the educational mission of a public research university.
The Associate Provost for Diversity advises the Provost on academic matters related to issues of diversity.
Specific responsibilities of the associate provost include:
- Represent the Office of the Provost on matters of diversity within the University and our broader Iowa community
- Coordinate and support underrepresented faculty recruitment and retention, including the Faculty Diversity Opportunity Program (FDOP)
- Coordinate those aspects of admissions and financial aid that are relevant to increasing diversity on campus
- Coordinate and support university efforts to recruit and retain underrepresented students
- Chair the Collegiate Diversity Group
- Oversee implementation of the Diversity Action Committee Report and Recommendations
