This page provides information and links about the focus, activities, staff, and history that define OI as a unit and effort. Opportunity at Iowa Mission StatementOpportunity at Iowa, a program run from within the Office of the Associate Provost for Diversity, provides the primary leadership and coordination for outreach and service to under-represented minority communities, for pre-college student development and recruitment, and for developing and sustaining programs and activities that support the academic success and graduation of under-represented minority students. This includes working collaboratively with such offices as Admissions, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, the Graduate College, Orientation, Student Financial Aid, Undergraduate Advising, and Support Service Programs in a university-wide effort to facilitate recruitment and retention efforts, and creating and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment. OI StaffOpportunity at Iowa staff members are dedicated to the efforts of supporting students in their collegiate experience. In addition to the various programs the staff support, they also work to forge strong individual connections with current University of Iowa students and with students considering Iowa as an option. ProgramsThe majority of OI's efforts are focused into a selection of programs aimed at elementary, middle school, high school, and college students. These programs span an array of subject areas and audiences, from the Pen Pal project involving middle-school students to the Iowa First Nations Summer Program for 9th and 10th grade students, to the Opportunity at Iowa Scholarship program which provides social, academic, and financial support to current University of Iowa students.
