Each year approximately 2,000 students transfer to the University of Iowa from other colleges and Universities. The University welcomes transfer students from all backgrounds, including those from under-represented minorities.

Opportunity at Iowa recognizes that getting into college is only one of many challenges that students face in achieving a successful college experience. A number of programs are offered either by OI, or in affiliation with OI to address specific needs.
OI Scholarship (C)
An award to incoming first-year students from under-represented populations with a high school record reflecting high academic achievment.
Multicultural Studies and Leadership Learning Community(C)
Provides an opportunity for students to learn about different American cultural groups, and develop leadership skills by blending theory and practice.
The Iowa Edge (S | C | A)
The Iowa Edge provides African American, Asian American, Latino/a, Native American, and first-generation college students with an introduction to The University of Iowa.
Iowa Biosciences Advantage (C | A)
Science majors with an interest in diversity gain research experience with cutting-edge faculty and benefit from professional development seminars and a strong community of people with similar interests. By the time IBA Scholars graduate, they are strong candidates for top graduate programs in the sciences. Summer Research Opportunties Program (S | C | A)
The SROP program gives undergraduate students first-hand exposure to the graduate school experience and faculty life by placing them with faculty whose work is closely related to their academic interests and career goals. Students work under faculty mentorship either on an individual basis or as part of a research team. Philip G. Hubbard Law School Preparation Program (S | C | A)
This program seeks to support diversity in the legal profession by inspiring students from groups historically under-represented in the law to become lawyers and by providing them with the skills and assistance that will strengthen their preparation for law school. Microbiology Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (S | C | A)
Fellowships are available to allow well-qualified applicants to participate in a nine-week program designed for students interested in a career in science. Student participants are integrated into faculty research programs and are encouraged to perform at the level of beginning graduate students. Summer Research Opportunities Program in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology (S | C | A)
This 10-week program allows qualified students with an interest in basic science research to conduct a research project in the laboratory of a participating faculty member. Interdisciplinary Summer Undergraduate Research Program (S | C | A)
This program is designed to allow students to pursue broad research interests in modern biomedical research areas in the laboratories of faculty who belong to the graduate programs in Genetics, Immunology, Molecular Biology, and Neuroscience. Services for Minority Students
