Dr. Robert Moses, Civil Rights Leader, author and founder of “The Algebra Project” will be the keynote speaker. Additionally there will be an African drumming performance, and Dr. Salome Raheim, Senior Associate to the President, and Professor of Social Work will lead “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Following the program, Dr. Moses will be available to sign copies of his book, “Radical Equations: Civil Rights from Mississippi to the Algebra Project.”

Film, ‘Mendez vs. Westminster’
The Council on the Status of Latinos would like you to join them for a brown bag lunch and a viewing of the film, “Mendez vs. Westminster” (30 min. film). Mendez v. Westminster is a historic federal court decision prohibiting school segregation in California seven years before the landmark decision of Brown vs. Board of Education. It offers a living history of an important story in the American Civil Rights Movement. A discussion led by Teresa Garcia and Prof. Omar Valerio-Jimenez will follow the film.

The People, Empowerment, and Change: Lecture by Frank LaMere
Frank LaMere (Winnebago) has had extensive involvement with empowerment efforts of Native People throughout the United States. In 2001, he was named Peacemaker of the Year by the Nebraskans for peace for his work to stop the illegal flow of alcohol on to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. He has been active in state and national politics since 1987 and chaired the Native American Caucus at the 2000 and 2004 Democratic conventions. He is former vice chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party and is currently a member of the executive committee of the Democratic National Committee. Frank has also been extensively involved in the ongoing Community Initiative for Native Children and Families (CINCF) and he was instrumental in the passage and implementation of the Iowa Indian Children Welfare Act of 2003.

Latinos in Action
As part of a series of events to honor and celebrate the life of Labor Rights Activist Cesar Chavez, the Council on the Status of Latinos presents: Teatro del Pueblo: “Help Wanted” a 45-minute play that tells the story of impoverished immigrants who come to the Midwest to seek a better way of life. This satirical piece demonstrates the plight of workers whose labor is needed but who risk harsh treatment and inequities when trying to fill this need.

The Mid-America Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MAEOPP) is a non-profit consortium of professionals with the specific purpose of leveling the playing field of educational opportunity for first generation, low income, and disabled students. MAEOPP is the representative professional body for colleges, universities and agencies that host federally-funded TRIO educational opportunity programs within ten states in the great Midwest. MAEOPP advocates on behalf of those persons least likely to enroll in and obtain a college degree at our nation's higher education institutions and is a member organization of the internationally recognized Council for Opportunity in Education (COE).

Guns and Tampons: A History of Violence Against Women I Know
The new work written and performed by Hanalei Ramos. It is a series of performance pieces based on the experiences of several women who consider themselves victims and survivors of abusive relationships with family, lovers, and friends. Guns and Tampons questions what it means to be a survivor and victim of violence and exposes their muddled boundaries.
Hanalei Ramos is a writer, performer, and community educator. She has toured around the nation to various college and university campuses as a spoken word artist.
