Linda Eggleston of Cedar Rapids and Larry Walz of Burlington are the 2001 Mom and Dad of the Year. They were honored during the pregame show of the Iowa-Indiana football game Oct. 20.

They were nominated by their daughters, Holly Eggleston, a junior political science major, and Andrea Walz, a sophomore psychology major.
Walz works in technical support at General Electric in Burlington. He is active in his church, does volunteer photography at community events, and is a member of a model train club.
Eggleston is a public health nurse with the Linn County Health Department. She works with troubled children at the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center and is active in her church.

Any parent of a University student may be nominated for the award. Recipients are selected based on community activities, volunteer work, personal achievements and honors, and an essay written by their student.
