Students clapping and singing on Homecoming float

Black-and-gold spirit couldn’t be dampened by gray skies during the 2004 Homecoming festivities.

Floats festooned with energetic students were met by candy-seeking children during the Homecoming parade on Oct. 1 (left). The celebration continued the next day on the gridiron, where Iowa beat Michigan State, 38-16. This year’s Homecoming King and Queen are Dan Haase and Cheryl Davenport, who were selected from a pool of applicants for their dedication to the University.

The annual Homecoming festivities, enjoyed by thousands of Iowa alumni, students, and supporters, are planned by dozens of student volunteers, lead by an executive council that included Gina Ledonne, Melissa Slonski, Josh Brown, Vanessa Grier, Tom Gwozdz, Becky Berelter, Megan Bigos, Erika Fablsch, Allison Reed, Carna Lapping, Devin McIlwee, Erin Pipkin, Jen Larson, and Sarah Adams.
