On June 1 the Department of Residence Services officially became University Housing. The name was changed to more accurately reflect the department’s mission and to be more recognizable to incoming students and parents. All internal names remain the same except for the Housing Office, which now is the Contracts and Assignments Office. Services available, phone numbers, and addresses also remain the same.
All students living in residence halls, except those in rooms
with a kitchen, must have a Basic-Fare Meal Plan (with a minimum of 10 meals per week). Students living in Mayflower, Parklawn, or rooms with a kitchen may choose a five-meal-per-week plan. Upperclass students in these rooms may opt for no meal plan or purchase 20 meals for $125. Changes and purchases may be made at the Contracts and Assignments Office, 17 Burge, using cash, check, or University ID charge.
On Jan. 29, 2007, students will receive information about reapplying to live in the residence halls for 2007-08. Students, not parents, will receive the reapplication materials, and only students can reapply. But parents can remind their students of the importance of these deadlines. If students do not reapply electronically, or fill out and return the UI Housing Application and Contract Card, by the Feb. 6 deadline, they will lose their opportunity to be housed in residence halls next year. So, come January, make a note to yourself to drop your student a few reminders. |
