Students of all majors arrived on campus early this fall to participate in one of the University’s largest student organizations: the Hawkeye Marching Band. After auditioning earlier in the summer for open slots in the 240-member ensemble, the musicians attended an intensive practice camp, informally known as Hell Week, before classes began in August. Throughout the football season, the band—85 percent of which is comprised of nonmusic majors—provides cheers and music during home games and also performs free concerts at the Recreation Building one hour and 15 minutes before kickoff.
