Parents, please note...
The article on this page is the only notification that parents will receive about their students’ residence hall contract reapplication. Under the rules of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, staff may not contact parents directly, as the student is the legal contract holder. However, parents may go to http://housing.uiowa.edu for housing information.
Parents who are interested in monthly updates on residence hall–related information and deadlines may also sign up for an e-mail newsletter. Visit the University Housing web site at http://housing.uiowa.edu, click on “Parents & Visitors” and then “News for Parents,” and
follow the directions to subscribe.

On Jan. 28, 2008, students who live in the residence halls will receive information on how to reapply for housing for the 2008-09 academic year. This information will be sent to the students’ campus addresses and will explain how to charge the $120 payment ($100 advance payment and $20 nonrefundable application processing fee) to their next University bill.
Students may access the reapplication booklet on the web. The booklet includes the terms and conditions of the housing contract; the electronic reapplication; and important information on the self-assignment system, space changes, and cancellation. The deadline to apply electronically is 5 p.m., Feb. 5, 2008. If the student chooses to reapply on paper, the signature card may be obtained at the Contracts and Assignments Office, 17 Burge. The application/ contract signature card and $120 (cash or check) must be returned to the Contracts and Assignments Office by 5 p.m., Feb. 5, 2008.
Students will be required to have one of the following meal plans:
- Traditional 20 meals per week (excluding Sunday evening)
- Any 14 meals per week
- Any 10 meals per week
- Any 5 meals per week (available only to residents of Mayflower, Parklawn, and rooms with a University-supplied kitchen)
Each room contract includes $200 in Hawkeye Dollars per year ($100 per semester). Hawkeye Dollars may be used at Burge and Hillcrest Market Places, Mayflower and Hillcrest C-Stores, all Iowa Memorial Union food service areas, food carts throughout campus, and in residence hall washers and dryers.
Students select and confirm a room and meal plan between Feb. 26 and March 5, and will automatically receive an e-mail confirmation of the assignment. Students may access the self-assignment system as frequently as they wish after their appointed time and until 5 p.m., April 4, 2008, to search for a different room or to change the meal plan. If the student has not confirmed a room by that time, the application will be canceled, the $100 advance payment will be refunded, and the student will not be housed for the 2008-09 academic year.
When students reapply, the rates for the 2008-09 academic year will not have been approved by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa; therefore, proposed rates will be displayed in the self-assignment system.
