About 140 University of Iowa students and community members removed nearly a ton of litter and debris along the banks of the Iowa River as part of Make a Difference Day on Oct. 28. The river, which flows through campus, recently was ranked third on a list of the state’s most endangered rivers. The effort was coordinated by the UI Civic Engagement Program, the 10,000 Hours Show, the UI Water Plant, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Watershed Monitoring and Assessment Section. The UI Civic Engagement Program, which led a number of projects and events related to the health of the Iowa River this fall, is focusing on environmental education and action.
