Meet this year’s University Housing and Dining scholarship winners
Each year, University Housing and Dining singles out qualified and deserving students living in the residence halls and gives them a little financial boost, based on specific scholarship criteria.
Matt Rudolph, sophomore
Award: 2011 George L. Droll Award, a $1,500 room-and-board credit
Hometown: Iowa City
Major: Biochemistry
Residence hall: Slater
Reason for living on campus: It's a good way to meet new people and form new relationships with UI students and staff.
Jostna Dash, sophomore
Award: 2011 Associated Residence Halls George L. Droll Award, a $1,000 award
Hometown: West Des Moines, Iowa
Major: Communication Studies
Residence hall: Stanley
Reason for living on campus: I live on campus because it is convenient for me. Not only is it close to all my classes, but there's food always prepared for me so I don't have to worry about that and can focus on my studies. It also has given me the opportunity to meet a lot of people here on campus.
Zac Builta, sophomore
Award: 2011 David Coleman Scholarship, a $900 award
Hometown: Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Major: Biochemistry (pre-med)
Residence hall: Rienow
Reason for living on campus: I wanted to absorb everything that the University has to offer. It's also a great way to meet new people, and very affordable.
