ZipCar zips into Iowa City
Owning, insuring, parking, fueling, and maintaining a car can get pricey, especially if you’re an undergraduate student trying to pay for tuition, books, food, and other essentials.
Now students and others in the Iowa City community looking for a less expensive option can join a car-sharing program run by a company called Zipcar. Members can reserve one of 10 vehicles parked around campus and downtown for a period of time ranging from one hour to several days. Rates start at $7 an hour and $66 a day (after an initial registration fee).
Zipcar covers gas, insurance, and 180 miles of driving per day (additional charges apply for miles driven beyond that limit).
