Meet this year’s University Housing & Dining scholarship winners

Each year, University Housing and Dining singles out qualified and deserving students living in the residence halls and gives them a little financial boost, based on specific scholarship criteria.

Steven Dominguez

Steven Dominguez, Jr., sophomore

Award:2013 George L. Droll Award, a $1,500 room-and-board credit
Hometown: Davenport, Iowa
Major: Biochemistry
Residence hall: Burge
Reason for living on campus: “I have made a lot of friends and have had many opportunities to get involved. I feel that living here again will provide even more chances for long friendships, and I’m excited to see how the community will evolve.”

 

Kaley Rigdon

Kaley Rigdon, junior

Award: 2013 Associated Residence Halls George L. Droll Award, a $1,000 award
Hometown: Dubuque, Iowa
Major: Communication studies, with minors in mass communication and human relations and certificates in leadership studies and fundraising and philanthropy
Residence hall: Currier
Reason for living on campus: “Convenience. I like being so close to campus buildings. It’s nice to be right in the middle of all of the action and not have to drive or walk very far.”

Brigitte Waldier

Brigitte Waldier, sophomore

Award: 2013 Associated Residence Halls George L. Droll Award, a $1,000 award
Hometown: Frankfort, Illinois
Major: Speech and hearing sciences
Residence hall: Daum
Reason for living on campus: “Living in the Honors Living-Learning Community has allowed me to connect with people that are just as committed to this school as I am. I can always find help on my homework, and I have met some of my best friends here.”

Katie Haupt

Katie Haupt, junior

Award: 2013 David Coleman Scholarship, a $900 award
Hometown: Sioux City, Iowa
Major: Psychology and informatics, with a minor in business
Residence hall: Burge
Reason for living on campus: “I like the sense of community here—there is always something going on—and also being close to my classes.”

Other scholarships

University Housing & Dining also awards deserving student employees the Food Service Student Employee Scholarship. These awards go to students working in residential dining, campus catering, kitchen operations, or campus retail. This year’s recipients are:
