Their bags are packed, they're ready to go…
Get the scoop on our new move-in schedule for first-year students
What do you get when more than 6,000 students and their families try to move into the residence halls in just one week?
Believe it or not, it is much easier than you might think.
In order to make move-in as painless as possible, University Housing & Dining assigns a move-in time and date to all first-year students. By now, your student should have received his or her room and move-in assignment by email. If not—or if that assignment got misplaced—contact University Housing & Dining contracts and assignments staff at 319-335-3000.
All new students are randomly assigned a move-in date and time
Students must bring their Iowa One Card (their official UI student ID, which also will serve as their building entrance proximity card) to the residence hall. This card was issued at Orientation. If your student did not attend Orientation (or lost the card), he or she should go to the Iowa One Card Center at 3 Jessup Hall before arriving at the residence hall.
During move-in, traffic personnel will instruct you where to go as you approach the halls. Follow their directions to the unloading zones, unload your student’s belongings, then follow their instructions to a designated parking area away from the halls. Free shuttles will make continuous loops between the residence halls and the parking areas.
We know moving your son or daughter into a new home can be stressful. Please be patient. A move-in crew will be available to help.
Students wishing to move in before their assigned day may do so on Sunday, Aug. 18, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or Monday, Aug. 19, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Students moving in early will be charged a $45 daily fee to cover room and meals until their assigned move-in day.
Move-in for returning students is Saturday, Aug. 24, beginning at 8 a.m.
