The residence halls are not only a place to live, theyre a source of good jobs that pay more than many other campus employment opportunities.
Experience isnt always necessary for the more than 500 positions available each year. Many students work 10-12 hours per week in flexible schedules designed to fit around class schedules. They do not have to qualify for financial aid in order to be eligible for these jobs. Heres a summary of whats available: Computer monitor: Assist students in computer labs. Approximately 30 positions for the academic year. Work up to 20 hours per week. The pay range is $5.75 (monitor) to $6.75 (manager) per hour. Food Service: Includes servers on the food lines, checkers to admit students to the dining room, student coordinators to assist supervisors, kitchen assistants, assistants in an automated dish room area, and some clerical positions. Jackets and baseball caps are provided. Approximately 300 positions available in Burge or Quadrangle residence halls. Up to 20 hours per week during the academic year, working in 2-3 hour shifts, 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 p.m., seven days a week. The job pays $7.00 per hour. Uniform shirts are provided; jeans and sturdy shoes preferred. Approximately 12 positions available for 20 hours per week. Jobs pay $7.00 per hour. Desk Clerk: Approximately 70 positions are available, 20 hours per week, $5.75 an hour. Shifts are available around the clock. Contact your building hall manager or call 319-335-9167 for more information. Fitness Center monitor: Monitor and assist in the use of exercise equipment. Respond in case of an accident. Approximately six positions are available, academic year up to 20 hours per week, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, $5.75 per hour. Other positions, such as resident assistants, are available for students who are sophomore year or older.
