A new coffeehouse in Mayflower Residence Hall has become a popular place to drink an espresso, check e-mail on two computer terminals, or just watch the Iowa River flow by through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The coffeehouse design suggests an outdoor café, with a partial awning, industrial-style chairs and tables, and a terrazzo floor. On weekends, musicians often use the coffeehouse space for performances.
