New: Emergency Procedures Guide Presentation on the Department of Public Safety The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety is responsibile for emergency response on the University of Iowa campus. The largest division is the Police Division, who patrol the campus 24 hours a day/7 days a week, and are state certified peace officers. Besides enforcing the law, our department is largely responsible for coordinating major events that happen on campus, (football, and all major athletic events, Hancher events, commencement, concerts and controversial speakers.) We also assist when any catastrophic event should affect the campus such as fire, bomb threats, floods, etc. We also strive to provide educational services to the Ul community to keep students, faculty and staff informed and to dispense information that will enhance their personal safety and security. We encourage all victims or witnesses to report any crime that they have knowledge of. If you have a need to report a crime or if you perceive a threat, please contact us. You can report problems to us in person, or, if you can not come to the Public Safety office, an officer will come to any location on campus to take a report. To report an emergency, dial 911. A 911 call from any campus phone simultaneously reports into the Iowa City Police Department (ICPD) and UI Public Safety (UIDPS). There is also a dedicated phone between the 2 departments. If ICPD receives a call of an incident on our campus, they will call us immediately. |
