INTERVIEW WITH TOM FRENCH
Adding narrative writing techniques will increase reader interest, as well as strengthen journalistic writing. Tom French, a master of the narrative writing form who is on the Indiana University School of Journalism faculty, shares his observations in a video interview with Indiana University graduate student Tara Bender. QUILL AND SCROLL SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
Six college freshmen are beginning their journalism or communication studies this fall with Quill and Scroll scholarships. George and Ophelia Gallup Scholarship winners Jackie Tempera (Communications HS, Wall, N.J.) is attending Emerson College in Boston, and Catherine King (West Henderson HS, Hendersonville, N.C.) is attending University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Edward J. Nell Scholarship recipients Zev Hurwitz (Shalhevet HS, Los Angeles) is enrolled at the University of California-San Diego; Logan Ponche (Francis Howell North HS, St. Charles, Mo.) at Drury University, Springfield, Mo.; and Elisabeth Dillon (Allen HS, Allen, Texas) University of Texas-Austin. Lauren Smith (Dwight D. Eisenhower HS, Blue Island, Ill.) Moraine Valley Community College, received the Richard Johns Scholarship. Their stories about the impact high school journalism had in preparing them for college journalism will be posted soon.
