2009 News Media Evaluation Awards

Judges cited 22 school publications from 11 states as George H. Gallup recipients in the 2009 Quill and Scroll News Media Evaluation Service.

Named for the founder of Quill and Scroll and the Gallup Poll, the award is given only to those publications that have achieved and sustained excellence.

To be considered for the Gallup Award, the publication must score at least 925 points out of the possible 1,000; earn superior achievement in all five sections of the score book; apply for Gallup consideration at the time of submission, and submit substantiating evidence.

Gallup Award recognition is based on extraordinary improvement, exceptional service to the school and community, editorial campaigns, and in-depth reporting on special issues.

International First Place Award recognition, which requires at least 900 points, went to 59 schools. The International Second Place Award, which requires at least 800 points, was awarded to 35 schools. The International Honor Award, which requires at least 700 points, was earned by four schools.
