News Media Evaluation

The News Media Evaluation provides a thorough analysis of your publication with constructive comments and suggestions for improvement from qualified evaluators. Charter member schools and junior high schools may enter their newspapers or newsmagazines in the evaluation. Entries and rankings are returned in September. This service is for Quill and Scroll member schools only.

To Enter

  1. Click to download a pdf of the entry form or fill out a printbale version online.
  2. Mail the entry form and $75 payment to:

  3. Payment of $75 must accompany the registration form. If your registration form is postmarked after April 15, you must include the $5 late fee.
  4. DO NOT send copies of your publication until you receive the properly validated scorebook from Quill and Scroll.

After April 15:

  1. We will mail an official News Media scorebook to you.
  2. We cannot send the scorebook until the payment is received.

All News Media applicants cited for a critical honor have the option of purchasing a certificate noting their achievement.

To Complete Your Entry (After you have received your scorebook):

  1. Fill out the appropriate sections of the scorebook.
  2. Return the scorebook and your publication issues to us. Your entry must include six publication issues - three consecutive issues from each semester. Schools publishing fewer than three issues each semester should send all issues published during the school year. Do not send special additions such as homecoming, senior, holiday or any issues focusing on one event as these are often atypical representations of your publication.
  3. You must have your completed entry postmarked by JUNE 11 via First Class mail.
  4. If your last issue is published after June 11, wait to send your materials until all issues to be submitted are published. YOU MUST HOWEVER, SEND NOTIFICATION THAT YOUR MATERIALS WILL BE LATE. Failure to notify Quill and Scroll may result in your scorebook not being judged. Do not send materials separately.
