Recruitment Ambassadors Program

Welcome

ambassadorWelcome to The University of Iowa Recruitment Ambassadors Program Web Page. This site will acquaint you with the Program.

The University of Iowa is committed to effectuating a highly qualified, diverse workforce to foster the University’s academic, research, and service goals. The Recruitment Ambassadors Program, jointly sponsored by the Department of Human Resources and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, supports the University’s strategic goals for increasing the diversity of our faculty and staff. Recruitment Ambassadors are current or former faculty and staff members who volunteer to help recruit diverse prospective employees.

What the Recruitment Ambassador Program Offers to Candidates

Those familiar with The University of Iowa and the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids Corridor already realize how vibrant The University of Iowa community is, and what an attractive quality of life the area affords its residents. The Recruitment Ambassador program is designed to be a valuable part of the search process that ensures that talented and diverse candidates that visit our campus and community can acquire a broad knowledge of all the area has to offer.

Over 20 University employees are trained and ready to aid departments in providing a more personal touch to the recruitment process. Specifically, a Recruitment Ambassador will be equipped to showcase the community and answer candidates’ questions on topics ranging from the area’s arts & culture, housing, school systems, dining & shopping, sports & recreation, and healthcare, to name just a few. Additionally, a Recruitment Ambassador will have informative and valuable resource materials regarding our local communities to give to each prospective candidate.

How Does the Program Work?

Volunteers are continuously needed to make the Recruitment Ambassadors Program run smoothly and successfully. Eligible faculty and staff members who volunteer for this program will be coached in employment recruitment activities and may choose different levels of involvement with the program.

Departments wishing to offer this service to job candidates may contact the Employment Services Office to schedule a Recruitment Ambassador. Through personal contact and participation in campus-sponsored events, Recruitment Ambassadors familiarize candidates with The University of Iowa and the community, act as liaisons between candidates and the University, and showcase various outstanding attributes that make The University of Iowa an “Employer of Choice.”

Other Recruitment Ambassador activities include participating in Job Fairs about two times a year for approximately four hours each or, at a minimal level, distributing brochures about employment at The University of Iowa in their communities.

Participation in the program and all release time from work for Recruitment Ambassador activities must have the prior approval of the faculty or staff member’s immediate supervisor.

Recruitment Ambassadors serve in a voluntary capacity, subject to the discretion of the program coordinator.  Volunteers may serve during paid release time, upon approval of their supervisors.  However, as a volunteer activity apart from normal work assignments, no additional compensation will be provided to Recruitment Ambassadors under this program.
