Staff News
Congratulations
to Maureen Walterhouse, Assistant to the
Director, who received the Mary Louise Kelley
Staff Excellence Award for her exceptional
service to the department by writing a proposal
to create a departmental computer facility
for undergraduate and graduate students.
Maureen was presented the award on March
23 at the CLAS Staff Recognition Reception.
In April, Maureen was also awarded
an Improving Our Workplace Award for her
initiative in bringing innovations to the
work environment. Congratulations
on both of these awards!
Faculty Appointment
The department is very pleased to announce that Dr. Ahmed Souaiaia has been appointed as the permanent, full-time Assistant Professor of Islam. The start date will be in August of 2004. Dr. Souaiaia is currently appointed as Visiting Assistant Professor. He completed his Ph.D. in Islamic Studies at the University of Washington, Seattle. His expertise is Islamic law and human rights.
Faculty News
Ralph Keen delivered the annual Margaret Mann Phillips Commemorative Lecture on Friday, April 2 at this year's meeting of the Renaissance Society of America in New York. Professor Keen spoke to "The Allure of the Past: Religious Reform and the Recovery of Ancient Ideas." The lecture was sponsored by The Erasmus of Rotterdam Society.
