Goals: All of the goals for previous speeches plus
The Assignment:This speech is designed to allow you to use the research you have done for Paper: An Annotated Bibliography and focus on speechmaking and form by adapting this information into an interesting public speech. Imagine that you have been asked, as an expert on your chosen issue, to make a brief presentation about the issue to this class of college students. How will you impart the key information (analysis, showing comprehensive understanding of the conversation) while still being interesting and connecting with your audience? It is a difficult task, but because your research is already done, you will have plenty of time to ponder the relevant arts of speechmaking!
Other Requirements:This speech should be at least 4 and no more than 7 minutes long. You are to speak extemporaneously from an outline (on a single sheet of paper). You may not wear a hat or chew gum while you are speaking. Research and properly cite at least five sources in your speech (at least one book and one non-electronic periodical) and create a bibliography in either APA or MLA style. Additionally, as an audience is an important part of public speaking, everyone will be expected to be here and be a supportive audience member for your peers, even if you are not scheduled to speak that day. You will be obligated, as a part of your participation grade, to offer feedback after the performance of every other person in your workshop group. I will also ask people to help me by being timekeepers. The due dates associated with this assignment are: An informal proposal/plan for your work: ________________ Workshop #1 (our focus will be your choice): ________________ Stand and Deliver workshop: __________ (be prepared to stand up and deliver your speech to your group) Final Draft:speeches will run __________ (turn in your final outline with a bibliography, a clean response form, photocopies of your images and texts with a full cite on them, a note as to what style you are using [MLA or ALA], and all other rough drafts and response forms associated with this speech) |
