Join Team Russia to Help Local Schools!
Beginning in Fall 1999, students, faculty, and friends
of the Russian Program have joined together as members of "Team Russia"
to raise funds for the Iowa City "Run for the Schools" community project.
In October 2002, over 30 members of "Team Russia" participated in this
event that contributed funds to Iowa City grade schools, junior and
senior high schools. The goal for October 2004 is 50 "Team Russia" members.
You need not be a runner to participate. "Team Russia" members signed
up for the 5K walk, 5K run, 10K run, and the half marathon.
This has been a wonderful event for our students to see
how their contributions of time, money, and energy directly impact the
greater Iowa City community in which they live. Moreover, it is a tremendously
fun undertaking.
One of the many benefits of this project has been the
creative T-shirt design that all "Team Russia" members wear for the
race. Lisa Dykstra, Ph.D student, will once design the T-shirt - a popular
item among UI students and faculty.
