Minutes from UISC Members Meeting on Wednesday, 1/25/06 in the Purdue Room,

Room 341 in the IMU.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Commodore Ben Miller-Todd. There were 31 people attending.

I. The minutes from the last Members Meeting on 1/18/06 were read by secretary Amy Rohlfing.  Moved (John Huntley/ Lindsey Schneider) to approve minutes without change.  Motion passed.

II. Officer Reports

   A. John Huntley, Former Secretary:

       i. John purchased 10 life vests for the club, 8 “universal size” vests and 2 large size vests.  The vests were $20 each.  He will give the order for the vests to treasurer vests and will drop the vests at the boat house.

   B. Heather, Webmaster:

       i. Website is working again after the server crashed.  She has been adding information back on piece by piece.  The website's homepage, 40th anniversary slideshow, and link to scuttlebutt are some of the parts that have been redone.

   C. Rich Adkins, Harbor Master:

       i. The club bought two complete radial rigs (sails, masts, and boom) for $1300 including shipping costs.

ii. The MCSA requires that all women use radial rigs during competition.  The purchase of the radial rigs will allow the women on the team to compete in laser regattas.

   D. Ben Miller-Todd, Commodore:

       i. The fleeces have arrived.  We will distribute them after the meeting.  Anyone who ordered a fleece and was unable to pick it up should email Ben at bmillertodd@msn.com.

ii. Opened floor for any final nominations for membership chair.  Last week Matt Legg and Daniel Rogge's cousin, Ross were nominated for the position.  Moved (John Huntley/ Lauren Trolley) that nominations be closed. Amy Rohlfing reminded the club that Ross has not yet accepted the nomination and is not yet a member of the club.  Moved (Lindsey Schneider/ John Huntley) to nominate Matt who can appoint someone to work under him if elected.  Motion

passes unanimously.  Matt's election passes unanimously.

III. New Business

   A.  Commodore Ben Miller-Todd asked for a clarification on the club's policies for boat donations.  Boat donations can not be accepted for with any conditions (such as donations in return for membership, t-shirts, mugs, etc.) The most recent donation came with some conditions and the donator has not yet responded to the club's request to remove those conditions.

   B.  The team will be traveling to the MCSA mid-winters conference at Purdue University on the weekend for Feb. 3rd.  The team will be rescheduling our spring regatta, FUJ, at the conference.  The two possible weekends for the regatta are March 25-27 and April 1-2.  It was suggested that the team schedule the regatta for the weekend in April in the hopes that it may be

warmer.

   C.  Each team in the MCSA is required to send at least two people to the Mid-winters conference which is mostly for organizational purposes (such as scheduling and registering for regattas).  It is expensive, however, to send people to the conference.  There is a $55 dollar registration fee per person and the hotel room costs $104/ night (even at a discounted rate).  Moved (Erin Flowers/ John Huntley) that the club fund one hotel room for two nights and

one registration fee (total of $263).

       i. It was recommended that the team send two important people (i.e. the co-captains) and others can attend on their own.

ii. Moved (Lauren Trolley/ Erin Flowers) to amend original motion to include on more registration fee (total of $318).  Amendment passes.

iii. Lauren Trolley, one of the team's co-captains, will not be able to attend, but will send Lindsey Schneider in her place.  Matias suggested that the team send one of the co-captains and a freshman to get the hang of Mid-winters.

iv. Motion to give the team $318 to send two team members to Mid-

winters passes.

IV. Announcements

   A. The Winter Weather Wet-Water Wager has begun again.  For 25 cents, you can pick a date that it will be safe to sail across the lake without having to move, break, or avoid ice.  Wayne Fett from Rec. Services will determine when it will be safe to sail across the lake.  The winner will take the entire kitty.  John will accept wagers until the lake is clear.

   B. Moved (Matias Perret/ Lauren Trolley) that he and Daniel Rogge (and anyone else interested) be allowed to trailer two ice boats to Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin this weekend to watch the Stern Steerers regatta there.  They will not be racing.  It is a Stern Steerers regatta and the club only has DN boats.  The boats are already on the double trailer and the trailer has been

repaired during the winter.  Motion passes.

   C. John Huntley needs a description (200-300 words) from each executive officer about what they plan to do in office.  The description will be put in the next Scuttlebutt along with pictures of the officers.

   D. No one won the Albatross this week.  Matias gets to keep the honor for another week.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:42 p.m.

Submitted by Amy Rohlfing, secretary.
