Minutes from UISC Members Meeting on Wednesday, 2/1/06 in the Purdue Room,
Room 341 in the IMU.
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. by Commodore Ben Miller-Todd. There were 25 people attending.
I. The minutes from the last Members Meeting on 1/25/06 were read by secretary Amy Rohlfing. Moved (John Huntley/ Warren Darling) to approve minutes without change. Motion passed.
II. Officer Reports
A. Warren Darling, faculty advisor:
i. As faculty advisor for the club, Warren can nominate students in University Clubs for outstanding leadership and participation in the club.
ii. He would like to nominate Lindsey Schneider for her leadership last year and Erin Wehr-Flowers for her efforts in teaching. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 20th and he needs five pictures of the nominees doing something with the club. He also needs to find out more information about the process and categories for nominations.
III. Old Business
A. Daniel Rogge was the only club member who made it to Lake Winnebago last weekend for the Stern-Steerers regatta. He did not take the ice boats. He also did not have the contact information for the University of Wisconsin sailing team, so he was unable to pick up the FJ sails that were left at UW Madison when the new FJs were picked up. He will be in Madison in a couple weeks and may be able to pick them up then. The team will also contact UW's
sailing team and see if they can bring the sails to Mid-Winters this weekend.
B. Matt Legg asked for a clarification on the rules of the Winter Weather Wet Water Wager. The rules are that you must be able to sail into open water and back. You do not need to sail across the lake.
IV. New Business
A. Rich Adkins moved (seconded by John Huntley) that we sell three E scows and keep only one.
i. The market for E scows was good last season and we should be able to get a good price for them this season as well.
ii. John Huntley strongly urged everyone to vote in favor of this motion. As it stands now, the club has an “extraneous” fleet that is not sailed and only moved back and forth from storage.
iii. The vote to announce the motion was approved unanimously. The motion will be announced to the club before it is voted on, so all who would like to vote can be present at the meeting.
B. Jessie Zuerner's parents have an MC Scow they would like to donate. She does not have the information about the boat yet, but will have it for the meeting next week.
V. Announcements
A. There will be separate officer meetings this semester that will be announced beforehand.
B. There will be a “social hour” (or two) at the Sanctuary on the 300 block of S. Gilbert after the meeting. If people stay long enough, the members of the cruising class will join those who went after the meeting.
C. John Huntley nominated himself for the Albatross award for forgetting the Wet Water Wager book. The club voted to give John the award for nominating himself.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
Submitted by Amy Rohlfing, secretary.
